John Griffin was born and educated in England but now lives and works in France. On leaving Grammar School he attended Southampton College of Art and fell under the influence of James Sellars and John Leferve, who instilled the passion of the ‘English Pastoral Landscape’ into his work. After qualifying he went into education and taught ceramics for some few years, but eventually left teaching to set up his own painting studio. He works in most media, watercolour, oil or pastel but has a preference for egg tempera on paper. Essentially an ‘English Pastoral’ painter he admires the tradition from Palmer, Blake, Constable, Sutherland and Nash and is set on continuing this aspect of his work today.
